We have added a new database to the Argosy University Online Library: 

Hoover’s Academic!

Search more than 65 million public and private companies worldwide or find out about over 85 million people--with information from the company's history to the CEO's salary. Also reference more than 700 industry records with industry description, SIC, NAICS, and links to related Web resources.

Here’s more of what you can do with Hoover’s:

iPads are here!

We’re excited to announce that the library now has two iPads available for check out starting today, March 29th! We thought that this would be a good way for students to read eBooks or articles in the online library, listen to lectures or podcasts, or explore different apps and other uses.

Some frequently asked questions about the library iPad lending program are listed below.

Who may borrow an iPad from the library?

Only current students, faculty and staff who present a current Argosy University photo identification card to a library employee may borrow an iPad. 

How can I check out an iPad?

You will need to bring your Argosy University I.D. to the circulation desk in the library. You will also need to sign an iPad Liability Agreement form.

What is the loan period for an iPad?

Students will be able to check out iPads for a maximum loan period of 2 hours . iPads may leave the library, but must be returned to the library before closing. Only one iPad may be checked out at any time by a qualifying library user.

May I reserve an iPad?

The library’s iPads will be checked out on a first-come, first-serve basis for now.

May I renew an iPad for a longer loan period?

Renewals are not available for the iPads.

Are there any fines and fees associated with borrowing an iPad?

Any iPad that is returned late will result in a $10.00 per hour late fee.

What if an iPad is returned damaged, is lost or is not returned to the library?

A minimum $750.00 replacement fee will be charged to the borrower.

Find information fast with Credo Reference, a new online resource!

Credo Reference is now available in the Argosy Unviversity Online Library! Counseling and Therapy Videos now available ONLINE

A new collection of Counseling and Therapy Videos is now available in the Online Library!

Description:

Alexander Street Press Counseling and Therapy in Video -contains more than 400 hours of training videos, reenactments, and footage of actual therapy sessions conducted by renowned psychiatrists, psychologists, counselors, and social workers.

Counseling and Therapy in Video: Volume II - features more than 300 additional hours of topics such as family therapy, child therapy, geriatric therapy, play therapy, weight control and eating disorders, PTSD, sex therapy, culturally-sensitive therapy, and cognitive-behavioral therapy.

Some features you might like:

• Every word in every video is keyword searchable. Enter a word and jump to the relevant section in the video.
• Make clips and playlists. Annotate and share them using permanent URLs. Use teaching and discussion guides to create lesson plans.
• Use 17 fields to find videos by subject, therapist, type of therapy, client details, and more. Speed through hours of video in seconds.

Go to the library portal page and click on Psychology (Under Browse by Field).  The video links are listed there. In May, the two collections will be merged by the vendor into one access URL.

Spring semester kick-off! Find out what's new in the library.

To kick off the start of the new semester, the library welcomes everyone to stop by Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday afternoon, January 10 - 12 for cookies and hot chocolate!

As some of you may know, over the break the library was reconfigured. Some of the changes you'll notice:

• Additional group study rooms have been added. Two of these rooms have been equipped with technology ideal for groups and individuals preparing for presentations, engaging in collaborative work, and viewing media
• Books related to education, business, research and writing have moved to the ALC.
• Copiers are now located in the old book drop location, next to the library entrance. Copy cards can be purchased at the circulation desk.
• The book drop is now located at the library entrance.
• Outdated and infrequently used books were removed from the collection. What remains are the most current, relevant, or most frequently circulated items.  In the coming months, additional e-books will be added to the online collection.  The library will also continue to purchase relevant print books as needed.
• Videos are now housed in a locked storage area and must be requested at the circulation desk.

Online Library "Quick Search"

Some major changes are happening online as well. The online library "Quick Search" is now powered by PRIMO, a discovery and delivery tool which enables users to search across many resources simultaneously, while providing a fast response time, high-quality relevance ranking of its resources, and an intuitive user interface. PRIMO went live on December 20th, but its full functionality has yet to be realized because of a technical issue with the conversion that is currently being addressed.  As PRIMO Quick Search is refined and perfected over the coming weeks, we feel that it will be a significant improvement over the previous Quick Search tool.

Another improvement you'll see in the online library is the addition of hundreds of non-embargoed full-text journals from publishers such as Taylor and Francis, Oxford, and others.

Fine Amnesty!

Additionally, the library is offering a "fine amnesty" for any books returned before Friday, January 14. This means all fines will be forgiven for any books returned before this date (with the exception of interlibrary loan books). If you have any items checked out which are still needed after January 14, please renew them by calling 312-777-7653 or e-mailing auchilibrary@argosy.edu, starting January 10.

Sage Premier is now available through the Argosy University Online Library!

Sage Premier consists of 553 titles from Sage publications, all un-embargoed.  These are all peer-reviewed, full-text journals (over 264,000+ articles) with content dating back to 1999 in the social sciences, business, humanities, and science, technology, and medicine disciplines.

New Online Core Collection now available!

Beginning today, July 1, 2010, the Argosy University Library has a new Online Core Collection. These databases are available through the Student Portal. Campus based resources are still available through this website. Click on "Database Access" under Quick Links

Here’s how to access the Online Core Collection:

• Log in to the Student Portal.
• Choose "Launch Library" from the Announcements area (no separate login is necessary).

Great News!

Beginning July 1, 2010, the Argosy University Library will have access to a new Electronic Library core collection provided to Argosy from ProQuest, CQ Researcher, Britannica Online and Mergent. With nearly 25,000 journals and 450 million articles, tapping in through your library’s website means finding key information that can help with all your research needs from anywhere, at anytime—on or off campus.

The following database collections are part of the new research tools which will be available to any Argosy faculty and students 24/7:

ProQuest Central:   ProQuest Central is a multidisciplinary database which contains over 160 subjects including core subject areas such as:

With this new resource opportunity, the Argosy University library will be changing its online collections currently available.  This change of vendor and information sources will create some differences in the availability of full text and services, including My EBSCOhost.
